Teach Soap

Can someone please tell me what freezer paper is? I have looked in my local grocery stores and can't find it...I am in a little town called Durham in Ontario! Is it the same as parchment or wax paper, and if not can I use these for my mold instead?

Freezer paper can also be called butcher paper. Its coated on one side (the side that needs to be next to the soap batter). Wax paper won't work, not sure about parchment. You can always line your molds with a heavy plastic trash bag is you can't find the freezer paper.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Just be careful as not all butcher paper has a lined side. I have a roll of it from Sam's Club that is unlined.

I have talked with a local soaper and she uses parchment so I might try that but thanks!

I found that parchment and waxed paper both stick to the soap and cause trouble (sometimes) when you try to remove them. I've also had soap absorb into both and stick to the mold. THAT one is fun to try and unmold!

Yeah, my first batch I used the unlined butcher paper, which is pretty much the equivalent of using parchment paper. Oils seeped through the paper and leeched into the wood. I had to stick that mold into a shoebox and cover it with baking soda to try to pull out the scent. Its been in there about 2 months now, mainly because I keep forgetting to take it out - its my 2lb loaf mold and I really need to pull it and clean it up. I need to make more smaller batches I love my 3lb log mold and my silicone log molds, but I want my smaller mold so I can work on different fragrances. I'm not up to measuring out enough soap batter for individual bars and doing just one FO per cavity. I don't have the time with nearly 2 year old twins

If you can't find it locally, I know Amazon's US site sells the Reynolds Freezer Paper, so maybe you can get it from Amazon. Or you could schedule a day to pop over the border and pick it up on this side? My local Walmart and other grocery stores here carry it so you could probably find it pretty easy on this side.

Loblaws / Superstore sells it. Not sure if you have Sobey's there yet, but they sell it too. As does Co-Op. All of them have it at the bottom of the shelf in the aisle with the saran and tin foil.

Zellers and Walmart also sell it!
