Here is a picture of my lemongras/vanilla oops. I like the looks of the loaf soap. It really does look like a custard. I have no idea why the top turned brown like that. None of my other soaps have done that. Does anyone know? The top is bubbly too. I'm not sure if you can tell in the picture.

SunnySide, soaps with a vanilla content will turn tan to brown over time. Since the outside of the soap gets air first, that's where it usually starts.

Very nice soap, SunnySide! Glad the soap turned out well. Lemongrass and vanilla sounds like a great combo. It's fun to watch a soap change during its first couple of weeks. I made a soap once that had a dark brown rind on the outside when I cut it, and the inside was a light creamy brown. It looked like caramel. A few days later, the whole batch was uniformly dark brown. I really liked the caramel look, but it still looked great even when it went completely brown! :)

Those are cute, SunnySide -- they look sorta like slices of poundcake right now!

Wow, I haven't been to this thread for a while - way behind on my soap porn fix actually ;)

Anita - those celtic molds are divine. I especially love the rectangle "celtic knot" (is that what it's called?) What kind of soap did you use to get such sharp relief of the designs? My understanding is that isn't always easy to do!

BAMA - You've been soaping like mad! The column swirl soap is amazing. And that was your first one??? Oh and I want some of those preserves in the background too :)

Jenova - don't you love the smell of honey/oatmeal soap all on its own? When you said it smelled like graham crackers that made total sense because my own milk 'n honey (and oat) soap smelled like that too but I couldn't think of what that yummy smell was except maybe cookies! It does fade but then in the shower you can smell it faintly again. It's one of my favorite soaps. You seem to have a knack for scrumptious looking soap I have to say.

Sunnyside - I thought of cake too when I saw those lemon/vanilla soaps! Even if they turn a darker color I think they'll still look great and match the vanilla scent. Yum!

Okay, so I cut some soaps tonight myself and so far I'm soooo happy with them. These are the soaping moments I live for!

If the pic is too small for you below (I cannot figure out how to upload a larger pic that doesn't have a too-big file size) ... here's a link to a bigger version:
http://twitpic.com/6awfv3

I made two batches simultaneously, one plain/white batch and one purple batch using alkanet/OO infusion. Then I poured off some of each color for the top color of the "other" color (make sense? LOL). The white one set up too fast on me so I didn't get to "drag" any of it into the one with a purple layer on top (boo!). I need to really learn to soap cooler because my soaps run away on me. I think the combo of the heat and the stronger lavender EO concentration caused this. The mostly purple soap with white topping I scented with a combo of lavender and patchouli ... one of my favorite combos so far.

Thanks again to soapbuddy for responding to my other post so quickly tonight! I ended up unmolding and cutting at just the right moment!

Karri, sort of like a ying and yang soap! I like the color and you have great texture on the tops! I am thinking that I have never tried lavendar with patch, and now wonder why. Patch is one of my top favorites! Will add it to my 'to do' list.

Thanks guys!

Yin/Yang - hadn't thought of that but totally true! Hmm ... alkanet/white would make a cool mantra swirl, yes?

Lavender and patch is so amazing together. There's a complexity to it even though it's just 2 EOs. Even my husband ADORES it.

Karri

Very pretty, Karri! Love how the tops look. Lavender and patchouli is one of my favorite EO combos, too. Orange and patchouli is also fantastic. :)

Chocolate and patch also smells wonderful, but you'd need to use an FO for the chocolate.

Really ... patch and just about anything yes? :) I seriously can't get enough of the stuff.

Now if I could get my hands on some amber resin ... well, that would be a tough contest!
