has anyone ever used evaporated goats milk? I do not have access to fresh goats milk. My husband happened to be at a specialty store and saw some cans of evaporated milk and bought some for me. I am tempted to try it but hate to waste oils. Any advice? Oh and I will be using all the hints I have read about making GM soap.

I've just mixed the evaporated milk as the instructions state, freeze the amount i want and then mix the lye with it. The soap has always turned out fine. One word of warning, just make sure the powder is fully mixed so you don't get any lumps :-)

Or you could divide your water amount in 2 halves. Dissolve the lye in one half and dissolve the milk powder in the other half. When the lye water is just warm, combine the two. Then mix into your oils.

hello. I actually tried a batch of soap a while back using a can of evaporated goat's milk from the store. I just diluted the GM according to directions and then froze it in cubes and then slowly added the lye. Everything went very well in the soapmaking process but I can tell you that even though the soap came out okay, I like the soaps with regular goats milk much better. The evaporated GM just does not 'feel' right to me when using the soap. I dont know why exactly, but I dont plan to continue using the canned evaporated milk. Others may like the evaporated milk soaps just fine, but for me it is definetely worth it to get regular goats milk. Also, here in my area the local wal-marts have started selling goats milk, so you may want to check wal mart. I plan to get mine from one of the local farmers but so far am just buying it at the store. :D

Thanks everyone, I am going to try a batch today hopefully and will use soapbuddy's suggestion and mix the lye with water then add the goats milk. I am also working on a new pvc mold system and will let everyone know how it works out.
