I'm new to soaping, but I have heard different stories on Castile soap.
>>>it's 100% olive (pomace)
>>>it's 100% Virgin Olive oil
>>>it's 100% vegetable oil with the majority being some kind of olive 80%
>>>it's a mix of Coconut oil and Olive 80%

What is true Castile?

Not a castile expert, but here is my understanding of it:

Castile is named for the region in Spain where the soap became famous.
Castile is 100% olive oil. Doesn't matter what kind.
Anything else is not castile , but is often referred to in the online soaping community as "bastile" - bastardized castile.

There is no legal definition, that I know of, for castile soap. That is why big companies like Dr. Bronner's refers to their soap as castile, even though it is NOT 100% olive oil.

A lot of people prefer a bastile, using another oil to supplement the lather of traditional castile.

To me, castile is 100% olive oil soap. Bastile is at least 75% olive oil, with other oils/butters added. The word castile has lost its meaning since Dr. B's castile soap is coconut oil based.
