I think I know what I did wrong, but would love some ideas on how to save the Salve & make it work.
So, I went to make the Mango Avacado Balmy Salve that Anne Marie did & when I got out all my ingredients
I realized I didn't have enough Mango Butter or Avacado Butter, so I used what I had and made up the difference
with some "HORSETAIL BUTTER" (this is where I think I went wrong, because this butter is very, very soft & doesn't
like to harden up in this type of Balm). I also couldn't find my "Dry Flo" (which I had my hands on the very day
before??), so I subsituted with "Potato Starch".
Anyway, after letting it set up overnight it was still very, very soft and mushy - very, very BAD!
Since I think it was the "Horsetail Butter & possibly switching out the Dry Flo for the Potato Starch - NOW, what
do I do? These products, especially the TAMANU OIL are very expensive & I don't want to waste one little bit.
My 1st thought was to scoop it all back into a big glass measuring cup & add Some Beeswax or Candelilla Wax or
a little of both, but I'm just? Then I thought I could get more of the butters I was missing & make another batch
& add this batch to that one & see if that would harder up the whole thing? Then I thought I'd better ask someone
who knows what they are doing before I do anything & have to through the whole thing out, which would make
me cry!!
So, if anyone out there has a solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate any help I could get. I've been
make CP/HP soap for over 12 years now & am just starting to branch out to Lip Balms, Salves, Bath Fizzies, &
moisturizing creams. My Lip Balms came out GREAT, my 1st try at Bath Fizzies wasn't so good, but think I can
fix that next time. I have made this Mango Avacado Balmy Salve before & it came out wonderful, but I followed
the recipe exactly & didn't subsitute anything. HELP!!!:) Joanne - Cliff Island Soapworks, Cliff Island, Maine

I would try either adding some cocoa butter or a wax. Start at 1% and take it from there. Make sure you have an accurate scale and keep good notes.
