Just came across, and never knew you could, what's the art of making liquid soap from scratch?

What is the process and what would you recommend?
I would love to try it, but obviously a good amount of research is needed first.

All I've ever done is buy liquid soap base and added to it like you would with m&p.

I enjoy making jelly soap (for fun), so liquid soap would be a whole new thing i would like to make to add to jelly soap (if it's ok to do so)

You can try making all olive oil liquid soap. There is a liquid soap calculator on the Summer Bee Meadow web site. You will need potassium hydroxide instead of sodium hydroxide for your lye.

It's not hard to make liquid soap, but it does have it's set of unique challenges! :x :lol:

Mix lye water and oils/butters til trace. Then cook til done. Check with phenopthalein to make sure that it's not lye heavy. If it's not, then either dilute the paste right away or dilute later. Did you search the forum? There is info here on this subject.

No worries :) I picked up a copy ages ago after reading that it was "the bible of liquid soap" and I found it a really good starting point. Although, I find it actually made sense after the first batch. So I read - attempted - read again - attempted - read and THEN it was like "oooooh, right!"

Just ignore the bit about preservatives as it's incorrect. :wink:

I shall look up them books and also see if there are any other good books on liquid soap making too :)
