Add everything at the beginning. I add my fragrance as well after the mix of oils and butters has cooled off some. I only use fragrances or essential oils that I know won't misbehave.

I don't take temps anymore, but when I did 110 degrees was pretty much the norm.

Also know that your soap does NOT need to gel in order for it to become good soap!

Thanks a million for your help. I'm going to try again today.
By the way, I just peeked at the last batch and so far, so good. Overstirring may have been the main culprit.....
But now I know about sodium lactate and I'm anxious to try it! I'm also going to add everything in the beginning - that sounds like a lot less trouble than at the end.
