Does anyone use preservatives in their CP soap? The Soapmakers Companion author seems to prefer that, but I haven't seen it in any recipes on the web. Just curious. Thanks!

No, they are a waste in CP soap recipes. They lye would neutralize it.

I had heard that Cavitch's recipes are contested quite a bit...which is why I have been trying out new recipes. Interesting to know! Truly.

Heavenly Scent Soaps

Hi:

I'm new to the forum, so just trying to catch up on some reading. I use Cavitch's recipes quite a lot and have had pretty good success with them. I normally leave out the GSE, too, but have used it, on occasion. It can accelerate trace, which I don't think she mentions in her books. I've never seized a batch, but have come close!

I agree that it is probably just a waste to include it. I have never had a problem with my soaps going rancid.
