I saw a post the other day where someone was asking if it is safe to cp while pregnant. This reminded me of a list I came across back in '08 and posted it to the forum. It is a list of EOs that are considered "safe" and those that should be avoided. I thought it might be worth reposting this. Not sure if this is the right section or if maybe I should have put it in the
fragrance & eo section so I apologize if I put it in the wrong area.

On Associated Content http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl ... tml?cat=52 there is a list. Be sure to do a lot of research before proceeding though. Here is an excerpt from the article:

Oils that are generally considered safe during pregnancy include the following:
- jasmine
- chamomile
- lavender
- tangerine
- grapefruit
- orange
- geranium
- rose
- ylang ylang

And here is a list of some essential oils that should be avoided during this time:
- basil
- fennel
- rosemary
- oregano
- bay
- cedarwood
- cinnamon
- juniper
- thyme
- clove
- sage
- myrhh
- birch
- anise
- marjoram
- clary sage
- nutmeg
- black pepper
- peppermint

Even when you're using "safe" oils, it's probably a good idea to use the smallest dose possible until you see how you react to it. Remember, too, that whatever you take in, the baby will also take in.

Instead of using the net as your guide, I would ask your doctor. I know that Anne-Marie soaped while pregnant, but I don't know all the details. I would ask her.

One issue could be the use of butters that contain substances that are inadvisable during pregnancy. Shea butter for instance contains retinol, a form of vitamin A that is known to cause birth defects if ingested during pregnancy. However in topical form it has not been shown to cause problems. I'd think that a decent face mask and gloves should provide sufficient protection. I'd be more concerned with the FOs and EOs than anything else.

My personal opinion, and any posts I make on here, are never intended to be substituted for the advice of a medical professional. However, there are a lot of EOs that have certain properties that can be troublesome during pregnancy because they stimulate blood flow to the pelvic area and CAN (not will, but could) cause uterine contractions. This isn't true of everyone by any means. But in my opinion why take a chance if there is a possibility of it? I think it is always good to be aware of these things and take caution.
