Teach Soap

So, I was prepared for the urine smell, I just wasn't prepared for it to last so long. I used GM for all the water, mixed with oat flour and honey. The bar was too brittle so I re-batched with more GM. I was trying to make a really mild Castile as a way of trying GM for the first time, and I love the lather of the scraps, but the smell has stuck to the bars like glue and it isn't going away. The urine smell has faded to the almost maple like smell of stale urine. I'm willing to let this castile age for months to really cure, but I hope the smell will go away by the time I go to use these bars. Any suggestions on how to avoid a lingering smell of urine when using GM? Everything else I have read on the forum talks about the smell vanishing in about a week.

I bet the smell is from when you rebatched with more GM, since it didn't saponify.

That's what I think, too. If you had used water during the rebatch, it probably would have been fine.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

How much gm did you rebatch with? In your title it says you did this the hp method. I'm thinking maybe you scorched the gm with the cook and then added too much gm with the rebatch and it just went sour on you. So that wouldn't be a very nice smell at all.

I recently made my first all olive oil goat milk soap. It has no smell at all.

I used goat milk bought by the quart in the dairy case. I will say this about goat milk. I love goat milk. I raised dairy goats. My children were raised on goat milk. I can't say enough good things about goat milk. However, keep this in mind. If you got your milk fresh from someone with goats you can get off flavored milk from a goat. In a commercial dairy, either goat or cow, the milk from many animals is combined so if one animal has off flavor milk you won't notice it. If you bought goat milk from the lady down the street who has one goat your problem could be the milk from that one goat
