I have typed in my recipie in SoapCalc, Brambleberry, and SummerBees liquid soap calculators and have gotten different KOH/Water amounts in all 3. Which one is the most accurate? I like using brambleberry's just for the simple fact you can get your amounts in grams saving me from having to convert all of them. Here is my recipie from all sites
BrambleBerry
15.6 oz. Olive Oil Pomace
2.0 oz. Castor
1.0 oz. Coconut Oil
1.0 oz. Mango Butter
.40 oz. Jojoba

3.89 oz. KOH ( 3% SF )
12.08 Water

SummerBee Meadow
15.6 oz. Olive Oil Pomace
2.0 Castor
1.0 Coconut Oil
1.0 Mango Butter
.40 Jojoba

3.91 oz. KOH ( 3% SF )
11.72 oz. Water

SoapCalc
15.6 oz. Olive Oil Pomace
2.0 oz. Castor
1.0 Coconut Oil
1.0 Mango Butter
.40 Jojoba

3.66 oz. KOH ( 3% SF )
7.6 Water

You can also get your measurements in grams with SoapCalc. If you hit View/or Print Recipe, you will get all of the different measurements, pounds, ounces, or grams. I don't know which one is more accurate but I always use SoapCalc myself.

I use Summer Bee. That one seems to give me the best accuracy.

Just curious about the SF amount - aren't you meant to have more lye and then neutralise it? So technically no SF?

I superfat at 2% for liquid soap just because I don't want to mess with neutralizing it. Call me lazy...

I'm so glad I read this thread RIGHT before I poured my lye in. The recipe got a quick recalculation haha :D

Coolah - whatcha making? :)

That is interesting info on the calculators. Are there the same variances with CP using different ones? (maybe I don't want to know!)

You are so right, ahutchins! The large variations in the lye amounts from different soap calculators nearly scared me off from making LS. I stick with Summer Bee Meadow's now and haven't had any problems. Laziness runs rampant because I superfat at 3% too just to avoid neutralizing. Good luck!

Coolah, does the GM make the LS cloudy? Does it get any funky smells? It sounds like a good but frustrating experiment.

I'm not actually sure at the moment as I'm having.... "issues". I can't get my paste to dilute enough, then when it does, I have a watery mess. :x

At the moment I have extremely dark brown liquid. I got told that the milk will make it dark brown, and as I have cocoa butter and a 3% SF, I will have cloudy soap. That's fine, doesn't bother me as I more want a good soap over a clear soap. But right now I'd like it to actually BE soap lol. :|

I knew patience was required for LS, but so far I'm 4 days in with no success and the current batch has been going for nearly a full 24 hours. From speaking to others, they say average 3 to 4 DAYS to make a single batch!! :o  :?
