Well, tried my Oats soap experiment this afternoon. I was going to make Oat Milk, but.....I'm just too impatient. So went to my Plan B. I made some fresh oatmeal on the stovetop, put that into my Vitamix with some extra water, and pureed it. Turned out thicker than water, but not too bad.
Again, lack of patience, so didn't refrigerate or freeze the oat milk. Just stirred lye into it. And here's where things went weird......
The lye in the oat slurry(?....not sure of right word here) turned to a goopy consistency. I added a tiny bit more water and kept stirring and my end result was thick and kinda paste-like.
I'm concerned that all the lye got thoroughly dissolved. How would I know? Would doing the zap test when it is cut be sufficient?
I'm thrilled that I got oats in 3 different forms into this loaf, but want to make sure the loaf is okay to use. What should I look for/test for?
Or does it sound like it's a doomed loaf anyway?

Did you take any pictures? Sounded like it might have curdled.
What did the final soap look like when you poured it? Like normal soap? When I had a batch of goat's milk / lye mixture curdle, I ended up with what I learned was called 'alien brains'. Can't mistake that look!!
If it all proceeded as normal, I would wait and see how it goes after you unmold and cut. You will see if there any abnormalities as it just won't look "normal". Take a photo and let us see so we can help work out what might be wrong.

Or ... it could all go fine. Just wait and see I guess. 8)

Sounds good so far. You would know if it curdled as it goes like a solid block as soon as you pour and it smells horrible.

Sounds like it just got thick on you. Fingers crossed!!

I've soaped with oat milk before (just soaked oats in warm water and drained) and my lye mixture was a little pastey too. Turned out just fine in soap.

You know how Snoopy does that little skip/jump/happy dance thing?
Yeah, that is me right now :). I cut my soap and IT LOOKS GOOD!!!! First check mark.
My brave boy and I zap tested it. Nothing! Second check mark.
I used it. Excellent lather, no scratchiness. Third check mark.

So thrilled with myself. It's the little things that excite me, obviously! :D

Will try to get a pic on here soon. Just took a few.
