So, is the result of adding Dry Flow immediate, or is there a "waiting" period while the stuff absorbs any excess greasiness?

I made my first body butter earlier today (shea, jojoba, preservative, dry flow, fragrance). The butter still seems kind of greasy when it first goes on, but it does absorb nicely.

Is the greasiness just a feature of body butters? Would it make any difference to use mango with the shea, or some other butter entirely? I have kokum, and I think some mowrai (don't know if that's spelled right!).

Thanks!

Anita

All body butters are initially going to be greasy as they are straight oils. The addition of tapioca starch or corn starch yields immediate resluts. No need to wait. Butters are all greasy at first but should soak in nicely. How much starch you add also effects how long it takes to "not feel greasy". The one I made yesterday soaks in really quick, which I like.

Sorry to just jump in but I just ordered some dry flow so I can experiment and try a body butter. Is there a ratio of dry flow to oils that you follow?

Soap Queen has 14 oz butter plus 5 oz oil to 5 tsp. dry flo/tapioca starch. I've used this and it feels nice. Let us know what you find out if you experiment.

This is the recipe I followed except I cut it in half. I am really liking it and 24 hours later, it's still nice and fluffy. I used a hand mixer by the way because I haven't convinced my husband to get me a stand mixer yet. Maybe for Christmas.....

Edit: Helps if I add the link I'm talking about...

Oh good thanks, I'll have to use a hand mixer too. I drool every time I see the Kitchen Aid commercials...Santa if you're listening I'll mention it again.... it's the shiny red one....I've been mostly good I swear!

I generally use a tbsp per pound of oils/butters that are in my whipped butter recipes. I would start off at maybe 1 tbsp and work up from there. It's all a matter of personal preference. My sister won't even buy the ones I make to sell anymore. She just goes in my soaping room and makes herself some with less dry flow than I add into the ones I sell.
