Teach Soap

Hi Folks,

This may seem like a dumb question but I've never used homemade soap before and well, I was wondering how are soap suppose to feel on your skin as you lather on to it? I've made three soaps so far, the latest being my lavender soap which was made a month ago. With all three soaps I felt like my skin was squeaky and rubbery. My skin never felt like this before when I used commercial soap. What am I doing wrong?

Superfat at 7%

Olive oil 35%
Palm oil 35%
Coconut 20%
Shea Butter 10%

How big of a batch is this? Do you have an accurate scale? I normally superfat at 7% as anything with a lower superfat my skin finds drying. If all your measurements are accurate and the soap gelled, then I would give it another couple of weeks.
For smaller batches, it's best to convert your ounces into grams for better accuracy.

it was a small batch of 1 lb. i did everything in grams. i will wait out a couple of weeks. Oh, and the soap gelled all the way. Does that mean anything? I thought the gell stage was more of appearance of the soap. thanks, soapbuddy.

Sorry, i realized i had posted something similar on this forum before. just curious how the soap feels on the skin. I guess in my head I think it's suppose to be like those commercial soaps.

Commercial soaps are machine milled, which makes them harder and synthetic surfactants which give lots of lather, but can be drying. If the soap gelled, it speeds up saponification. Give your soaps more time.

Okie dokie, Soapbuddy! I was anxious to used it since I had readjusted the reciepe a little. With your help and others...the lavender soap turned out well expect for this kink and didn't have much bubbles. How do i get it to have more bubbles?

Okay, i will try that. I plan to make a batch this weekend.
