Teach Soap

Yeah my stick blender died!! so sad. I was working on 3 batches this past Saturday and it died in the middle of batch 2. LAME! Now I have to find a cheap one that I can afford without taking away from my video camera budget...
I'm thinking a cheap one for the immediate future and save for a really good one in the next month or so. Any suggestions?

Other note. What is the deal with Lake colors? I bought some Lake reds from the Conservatorie and tested them all out. Turned out awesome! Went to use one this weekend and SOMEHOW and I don't know how, it ended up everywhere (all I did was add a tiny tiny bit to soap). It got down my arm, on my pants, and I was blowing it out my nose a hour later.

RIP stick blender! If you can't afford a good one with a stainless steel shaft, get an inexpensive one from places like Target or Walmart. It might not last as long though.

Try a white westinghouse one, they are super cheap and tend to be pretty darn good! Mine is over 10 years old and still works perfectly! You can get them at walmart for ~10-$20.

Erin, sorry to hear about the death of your stick blender. My first one was a WalMart cheap one - $20 Oster that has a stainless shaft. Hope the next one lasts longer!

Happened to me the other day (brand new one). Make sure you don't get any liquid seeping in and attacking the motor.

Lucky i have a whisk, i had to improvise.

Funny stick blender related (kinda) story:

We lose power at our house frequently. My last soaping session took place during a storm. The lights had already flickered a bit, so I was worried I'd lose power in the middle of stick blending - it would be just my luck. Aha - that's where a wire whisk comes in.

I was standing in the middle of my living room, proudly holding up the wire whisk, proclaiming loudly: "THIS IS MY FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE AGAINST ANY POWER OUTAGE TODAY!"

Damned if the lights WENT OUT one nanosecond after I said that. I was still holding the wire whisk in the air.

So - my takeaway from this post: whether power outage or stick blender death...have your wire whisk at hand. Just don't SAY anything about said wire whisk - or your stick blender just might die like I lost power.

I have my whisk handy; always. I have a back up of a back up for my stick blender. I have a heavy duty Braun with a stainless steel shaft which they don't make anymore.

hehehe, everyone is gracefully ignoring the fact that she had soap colorant up her nose. I am sitting here laughing trying to figure out how exactly she managed that .
