I got my first dreaded orange spots to such a degree that they became FFO's (For Family Only). Intrestingley they were in a batch that had no color and no fragrance. They did cure right out in the light of the room but so did all the other batches. They were the oldest batch.

How do you tell if an oil rancid?
How long would it actually for example 7 pounds of coconut oil to go rancid when kept in a closet?
I am not afraid to keep any quantity of oil for fear older oil is causing DOS

What were the oils that you used? Without that information it's hard to tell.

I wouldn't use a soap with DOS at all, I'd bin it.

None of my oils have EVER smelled rancid. They are at most 6 months old.

Coconut
olive
palm
castor (that is probably the oldest but I only use 2.5%)
sweet almond avacado

The older your oils, the more chance of DOS. I would bin it.
