So far I have only tried this one lotion recipie but have read where you are supposed to heat and hold your ingredients. Is there some reason why AM doesnt do this in this recipie?

I always heat and hold my ingredients. Not sure why she didn't.

Can you describe 'heat and hold'?

Is it just letting everything sit on the stove for a certain time before removing to cool down?

Pretty much. You heat it up to 70 degrees (I'm Celsius), then once it's at 70 degrees, you keep it at that temp for 20 minutes.

Make sure that you have a little extra water in the pot when you heat and hold since some of the water will evaporate.

I heat & hold enough water to do several batches of lotions at a time this way I can have water cooling for one batch while I'm working on another one.

Just curious - Is it okay to premeasure and mix the oil phase lotion ingredients (oils, butters, emulsifier, stearic, etc) to have ready like you can do for CP ingredients? Or would that mess things up?

You can definitely can heat and hold. It helps with emulsification and
helps with any possible germs that may have gotten through your careful disinfecting process.

It's a personal preference on whether to do it or not. I have done challenge tests (the $600 kind) and the yeast/mold tests (the $31 kind) on batches made both ways and they have both had the same outcomes but to be on the extra safe side, it's a great idea to heat and hold.

Coolah, I'm delighted you think my videos look professional enough to have a big budget. You've made my night. :)

Ok, so you're talking about just heating the water before mixing all of the ingredients right?

Not heating the mixed lotion then?

Cool, I'm going to start doing this.

I have also wanted to start trying to use aloe vera juice in place of water, would I need to do the same with it as well?
