Ok, I was trying to make a concoction of 2 FO's and was then going to debate if I should add something else or leave it be. I mixed 2 pts Vanilla Silk to 1 part Dk Choc and I wanted to throw up. My arm smells like cinnamon. How is this possible? I am trying to create scents for perfume oil or my sugar scrubs, and don't want them to smell stank or cheap, or way off my intended mark. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Some FO's don't mix well together. It's hard to say which ones work and which ones don't as there are many FO's out there and they have different ingredients. In this instance 1+1 does not create two. It can be 3. :D

Thank you soapbuddy, now here is a 2nd part to this question. Does the quality of the oils also play a factor?

Cinnamon may have been part of one of the FOs but you didn't notice it until it was blended with the other FO.

When I do a blend I use the Q-tip method. Generally I'll try 3 combos. Say I want a vanilla/chocolate blend. I'll get those FOs out and then think about what else I want to try- Maybe peppermint in one; orange in another; and black raspberry vanilla in the third. I cut a bunch of Q-tips in half and get 3 half-pint canning jars with lids ready. Then I put a drop of vanilla FO on 3 q-tips and put one in each jar. Ditto for the chocolate. Then for the 3rd scent a drop of the blender scent. Put the lids on, label them and leave them sit for 24 hours. Open the jars and smell them...take notes about what I like & don't like. Put the lids back on and check again in 24 hours. Some blends will really mesh after a few days and will smell very different than when you first mixed them. If one scent seems to be overpowering another, add another q-tip with a drop of the FO you want to bring out. (don't forget to take notes!) I've had blends sit for a couple of weeks before getting just what I wanted.

Thank you ljm 1180, I used Vanilla Silk and Dark Chocolate, I have no idea where the cinnamon could have came from but now I am questioning the quality of the FO's. These FO's were not from BB, as I KNOW that they have high quality FO's. The method that I use is dropping drops of each FO with a different pipette for each fragrance of course, into a paper dixie cup. If both FOs are strong, I do a 1:1 ratio. If one FO is weaker than the other, I do between 2 to 5 drops for the weak one to 1 drop of the strong one.

Thank you soapbuddy for clearing that up, I assumed that the quality of the FO's would be a factor.
@AprilPrey, that's almost like wishing we were flies on the walls during certain conversations! lol :)
