Is it not a good idea to store cold press soap in plastic baggies? I am starting to think how I am going to wrap the soaps that I made when I give out for XMAS present. I have some fabric baggies, and was thinking of using but at the same time I have come across some of the Cello Bags at the Dollar Store. Can I use those?

I also have some of these that I had purchase for my Melt and Pour soap:

It will be nice to package with a ribbon and slip in as stocking stuffers that way since it's clear they can see the design.

I have the mental picture of how I want my soaps to look. I want to wrap them in muslin, with a thin natural cording/twine and put the scent on a leaf shaped tag.

I used shrink wrap bags for the my MP soaps, I use the same bags on my cp soaps but dont shrink them-just seal them, then use a hole punch to give them some breathing room. The only reason I bag them is that I do a lot of outdoor markets and between the thought of countless numbers of people touching them, the dust...Just want to keep them clean. They do have a cigar band on them with all the required information :)

I plastic wrap them -- the restaurant quality plastic wrap -- which is like saran wrap. Is this not a good idea for some reason? I only wrap MP or, once it is cured, CP soap. I don't want dust and stuff on them.

For CP soap, mine is in paper boxes. I feel the soap needs to breathe. For MP, I use shrink wrap.

But is it okay to saran wrap the CP soap? Why do you think it needs to breathe? I'm talking about it being wrapped after curing.

Shrink wrapping MP and saran wrapping it are the same in my book. But I'm asking about CP.

CP continues to age and improve even after cure. A soap that is a year old is better than a soap that is 4-6 weeks old. If you were to wrap a CP soap, then come back in a few months (or even a few weeks) and check it, the packaging will be loose.

All my CP soaps are stored to keep dust and dirt off them, but are not wrapped. They are only wrapped when going to a Market, about to be handed out, and if posted, they are packed in cardboard soap boxes for protection while still allowing them to breath.

Thanks for the info. That's really good to know. I won't package my soaps until just before the show. I'd forgotten about the continued shrinkage (due to water evaporation).

If you want to keep them clean and such prior to wrapping - pop them in a cardboard box (shoe box, post box, etc) and close the lid. It's not air tight, so they can still breath, but keeps dust and suck off them.

Then just pop the boxes in a cool, dark place out of the way - top of your wardrobe, linen closet, etc. Mine are all in my laundry...

Right now mine are in the linen closet on parchment paper/half sheet cookie pans curing. Once they're done curing, I'll put them in the box!
