Teach Soap

A friend came by today to do some Christmas shopping in the soap room and she said her hubby had a soap question. "Why does a new bar of soap lather up so nice, and then when it's about halfway used up, it doesn't lather as well?" Since I've a) wondered this myself and b) couldn't make up anything plausible right off the top of my head, I said I'd hand it over to the forum where nothing is too far out in left field to reach for.

I believe it has to do with air penetration, the soap on the outside when you have a new bar is fully cured and lathers wonderfully. But the soap on the inside has little to no air penetration and it doesn't "cure" or dry out like the outside. The moister inside soap doesn't lather as well simply because of the moisture content. At least this is what I have deduced!

Handmade soap works best when it can dry out between uses. If it's left in water, it will pick up moisture and you will get less bubbles.
