Teach Soap

Recently, I've been using goat milk more often and have a few questions....
1. Is there a different feel to soap made with powdered goat milk as compared to canned goat milk? and what about these compared to using fresh GM?
2. I've been freezing the liquid goat milk and mixing my lye into the GM ice cubes (small amounts at a time). I'm concerned about my solution being too cold once everything is dissolved and the cubes melted. How do I avoid ending up with a too-cold lye solution? And is there a problem with the solution being too cold? If so, how cold is "too cool"?
3. I know some people use Almond Milk while others choose Goat Milk. If you've used both, how do they compare to each other in the resulting soap?
4. When I used canned goat milk, it is condensed and I mix it with distilled water. The color is a nice off-white creamy color. But when the milk freezes, it turns more orange. And my resulting lye solution made with the cubes is more orange still. Are there any tips to keeping it closer to the original creamy off-white color?

I appreciate any input/advice. So much to learn.....

What is your lye solution...33% 38% or??? I do not think it will make your lye to cold. I refrigerate my lye solution to being it down under 120 degrees and that takes a good 30 minutes usually. I soap at a 38% or 40% solution generally.

I haven't noticed any difference in the feel of soap made with powdered vs. liquid GM. I use powdered most of the time because it's more convenient and less expensive. I let my frozen GM sit until it gets slightly slushy before I add the lye. Most of my unscented/uncolored GM soap stays a nice creamy white color, even if the lye solution turns bright yellow. Have you tried mixing the lye with minimal water and adding the rest as GM at trace? Maybe that would keep your soap lighter?

I add salt (1 tsp PPO) to all my soap and don't have white spots. Did you add it to the hot lye water?

Carrie, I just made my first goat milk soap last week. I soaped very cool, keeping the lye water in a ice water bath as I was so afraid that the milk would overheat. I think the temp. was around 80 degrees on both the oils & milk when I mixed together. The soap was a pale yellow when I took it out of the mold, ( a pvc mold I had put in the freezer) and now it is turning a pale, creamy color, however, it is still very soft in the center. Tried to cut but will have to wait a few more days I think. Also, when I mixed the lye with the frozen milk, it got very thick & stayed that way until I mixed with my oils... just letting you know of my first gm experience! I noticed the soap is very oily feeling when I cleaned up my equipment 3 days later.
