Teach Soap

I am new at soap making and I am trying to make 4lbs of soap with lavender essential oil and grape fruit fragrance. I am not sure how much to use. I have heard you should use .5 Ozs. For ea pd., and the Citrus doesn't hold up. Do I need to use 2 Ozs of the lavender, which is what they say, plus 2.5 Ozs. Of the grapefruit? I made one batch, used .5 lavender and 1.5 Ozs but can't smell anything.

The most I would safely use is 1 oz. total per 1 lb. of soap. So for a 4 lb. batch, the most I would use is 4 ozs. Depending which grapefruit fragrance you have, it might still fade. It's not safe to go above this amount, as it can make the soap irritating.

You can try subbing in some litsea cubeba eo for some of your grapefruit fo as it helps anchor citrus scents.

How does the lavender hold up? I personally don't like lavender, but I'm atypical, which means I'm going to have to have some lavender soap for when I do my show.

It doesn't really smell like lavender - more of a fresh citrus-type scent that holds really well.

Are there lavenders that smell like lavender that anyone recommends for when I get done with the next ten batches and need to do more . . . that's about when I'll do the lavender (unless I get it from Santa).

That show I'm thinking seriously about doing after talking with someone who did the September one (it's twice/year) turns out to be more like 12,000 people per DAY and it's five days long. I'd be bringing strictly soaps and dog biscuits. Lots of soaps and lots of dog biscuits-- but not all of it everyday.

So who wants to venture a guess on how many soaps I should have prepared? It would be fun to see your thoughts!

I like Lavandula Abrialis as it's the least camphorous. I use it in lotion, but it might be too expensive for soap.
