Both hot and cold process soaps solidify into something that won't ever melt into a true liquid again without the addition of LOTS of water and a slow heating process. Okay, I get that.

Melt-and-pour will, in fact, melt again (multiple times) into its original MP-soap base.

What's the difference? What different ingredients or procedure is used to make soap that will be meltable-and-pourable?

Cold process or hot process soap will never again be as meltable as MP soap. You can rebatch cold process, but adding too much water wil make it mushy and will take a very long time for all the water to evaporate. Adding too much water to this type of soap will make it shrink unevenly and with some formulas, it will turn the soap into slimy snot.

This is some version of CP soap with lye added: Olive, coconut, palm, tallow, lard, castor, shea cocoa or mango butter.

This is MP soap: Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Safflower Oil, Glycerin, Purified Water, lye, Sorbitol sugar, Sorbitan oleate, Soy bean protein. MP soap needs alcohol, sugar and an emulsifier. MP soap is a completely different process that's difficult to make at home.

I honestly don't know why MP soap even exists; it simply doesn't work in my opinion. Doesn't produce lather.

I use and sell both. It depends where your MP came from. Some are better then others. The MP soap base that you get from a craft store is not a good quality.

I have never made it. Once, my wife bought some fancy M&P clear with fancy embeds. It was very pretty. Unfortunately we ended up throwing it away because it was so useless :( Then again, we went to another place and bought some HP, and we didn't care for that, either. One of the bars had such a sharp exfoliant that had sunk to the bottom, that if you used it unsuspecting, you'd hurt!

I would love to make M&P but the process is quite difficult so I leave it to the experts. The base I buy is locally made and doesnt have any nasty ingredients - it lathers just as well as my CP & HP bars. I really think you just have to get a good base for M&P - I sell my M&P soaps at markets and make CP & HP for private sales and family use. I would use any of them and I use all on my face.

I did my first few batches with MP. They turned out pretty and they lather reasonably well. Some were clear MP and some were Mango and Shea Butter MP. I've put ground oatmeal in my MP and made a fabulous bar with it. I do use my MP and have had compliments on it. I put nontoxic glitter on my CP.

I think it all has to do with how it is crafted.

I don't have any problems with my M&P lather... it lathers beautifully and a lot of people prefer it to the CP as they feel it resembles the store bought soaps better (lather wise).
