Teach Soap

I'm going to try making CP for the first time this weekend, how do I pick how much of each type of oil I want to use? The oils I have here are Coconut, Sunflower, Grape Seed and Castor.

Have a play with a lye calculator to work out what you want your end result to be - conditioning, bubbly, etc.

I wouldn't use over 5% castor oil. And Grapeseed has a short shelf life so wouldn't use that at all personally. I'd pick up some Olive oil...

If you're making your first batch, I'd start with a simple proven recipe rather than making one up yourself at this stage.

Get some olive oil and make olive, coconut and castor soap. 75% olive oil, 20% coconut oil and 5% castor oil. 7% superfat. No color or scent.

I agree with others, however I've made soaps with grapeseed oil but as coolah mentioned it will negatively impact the shelf life of the soap.

I even suggest making 5% superfat for the first batches, and making the first batches between 300-500 gr

Castor oil makes your soap soft and sticky and over 7% has a negative impact on the foam.
