Do you know what age of children? If it's not too young, you could do lip balms or bath salts. My 3 yr old son is great at mixing bath salts and decorating the labels with markers & stickers. (These are ones that we give away for the Holidays).

I just did a "learn and do" workshop with 4H kids where they got to help from start to finish on making bath salts, and fizzies and MP soaps and I did a demo of CP process. THey LOVED getting to measure things out, weighing them, coloring them and picking out their own fragrances. I got lots of kuddos from the lady that runs that work shop. I am also trying to shame the other ladies in our club to help teach a class with them. The age ranges went from 7-15 and I had 11 of them for 4 hours. There were plenty of opportunies for them the learn something, chemical reactions, weights and measures, color blending (gone wrong in some cases), personal safety and so on. The kids were so jazzed that they had the mom's coming over asking for more information.

But for you situation, I think the fizzies and salts are the best bet.

I agree, I think fizzies and bath salts are perfect for something like that! My girls (5 yrs) help with bath bombs, and they love it!

Cultures all around the world, generally primitive ones, trust young children with sharp tools to help them better learn to respect them. Why not have the kids mixing lye for CP soap?

Okay kidding kidding.

Having taught a few craft classes for kids, just plan for everything, and be patient, and bring along plenty of stuff to clean up any conceivable mess.

LOL, well I let the kids measure out all the oils and water for the CP part. AFTER I went over all the safety requirements. My husbands company donated the safety glasses and gloves for the kids. they were so cute wearing those glasses. and didnt take them off ALL day. I had them all take a two giant steps back when I was mixing the lye with the water and then when I mixed it into the oils.

The 4H Lady is still talking about it and what a great time the kids had.

Lip balms, bath fizzies, bath salts... those are great ideas. My first thought was MP soap, maybe in some sort of fun embed design. SoapQueenTV has some lovely videos on Youtube, like how to make soaps that look like orange slices.

Thanks for the suggestions...this is a large festival with a thousand or so people so i need to keep it very simple. I will be alone so I need to man my table & sell soap too! So it has to be a kind of on your own activity at a small seperate table outside my tent. I had a thought...maybe I could set up a little experiment - a bowl of water and soap chips with a sign that says "Does Soap Float?"...all of my soaps sink except my sea salt soap...they can get a little hand washing while they are at it. Obviously I will have to keep refilling the bowl but otherwise I think it would be manageable and kids can keep a little piece of soap. then I will also make up some soap themed coloring pages and put out crayons too.

I think it's a great idea to have a kids activity and a great way to draw in parents :). However, if I was running it by myself, I don't think I would personally attempt to sell soap AND have a kids activity. The kid activity would need to be monitored (supplies, out-of-control kiddos, kiddos left there without a parent, etc.) and I would be bonkers! But perhaps you can multi-task much better than I can. The idea itself sounds wonderful!

I think that's a great idea - keep the kids entertained, and will also put your product right in front of the parents. They'll have some time to at least look at what you're selling while the kids are playing!
