I was just talking to a relative who I've talked to before about making soap & have given her lots of pointers, tips & links to good info. She's been dabbling in making MP soap & candles for over a year and is known for doing things that make no sense.

But anyway. She was telling me all about this soap that she bought at a craft fair. She wants to make some just like it because she loves the idea of it so much but doesn't want to pay $6 for a 3 oz bar of it again. (This same person complained that my 4 oz $4.75 soaps were too expensive :? ) What was the soap? Yogurt soap. She talked with the makers of it & apparently they got to talking about soap making and the lady gave her the recipe:
1 lb White Melt & Pour Base
1 cup yogurt
1 oz rubbing alcohol
1 oz mineral oil

I told my relative that if you add yogurt to it, it'll mold. (I know from experience) Her response, the alcohol and mineral oil will preserve it. Then she said that the soapmakers told her to use the soap as soon as possible.

She said that she used it all up and she really liked it, but thinks she'll add some olive oil to hers because the soap dried out her skin. (duh!)

When I explained to her again about adding food stuffs to MP, she got all angry with me and said, "Well how come you add milk to your soap and it doesn't get moldy?" So once again I explained to her that I do Cold Process soap. To which she replied, "The MP is cold."

How frustrating! Some people just don't get it.

Agree with Irena. Wow that is gonna take some thought and patience to get through to her. Good luck with that.

Well after hours of talking to her some more today, I think I've given up for today. I've given myself a headache.

Some people will only listen if you agree with what they already think. So long as she doesn't sell any, let her make what ever she wants. She will only learn when she see's it happen first hand.

How does 1 cup of yogurt + 1 lbs. of MP soap = a bar that's anywhere close to hard? Not to mention the molding issues that you mentioned! In my imagination this "recipe" would just turn into a blob of mush that would never be anything but a blob of mush.

Why doesn't she just take a cup of yogurt and a bottle of baby oil into the bath with her? Seems like it would be safer than the soap you are describing. Yuck.

LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

Give me her address -- I bake bread and can send her some via snail mail. By the time it gets to her, it should match the color of her soap . . .

OK, I shouldn't laugh because I am a total newbie. I did several batches of MP and when my supplies come, I will be doing my first CP. I laugh because I work with people and customers who actually make the remark "the MP is cold" sound smart.

Don't bang your head against the wall trying to explain it. She doesn't get it and doesn't want to get it. Let's just hope she doesn't sell it. My skin itches already . . . just thinking about it.

Well, wait a minute. I think I understand the recipe:

Use the mineral oil to grease the mold. Melt the MP and pour it in the mold. Spritz the MP with the rubbing alcohol. Eat the yogurt while you wait for the soap to harden. Then charge $6 for 3 oz of MP. That's it! Now we ALL know!
