Teach Soap

If I have a mold and have measured the inner dimensions, how do I then go about calculating how much soap it will hold?

Note: I use METRIC measurements, so "soap weighs about X ounces per cubic inch" make me have to go through an extra step, which hurts my tiny-and-mostly-empty head. Please don't confuse me with imperial measurements!

What is the length, width and height of your mold?

I see. I thought you already had the mold. For a 4 lb. mold you can make a mold that's 15" length x 3.25" width x 2.5" height. The total does include water along with the oils. If you want to make it bigger, make the length longer.

I'm looking to make a slab mold this time around, and it's about 4.4 pounds -- again, I think of it in terms of 2000 grams. I already have a loaf mold that'll serve, but I want to learn some swirling techniques I've seen on BB and various Youtube videos.

Fair enough. I had my molds made about 2cm higher than what I normally do my soap bars at. That way I can do fancy tops if I feel like it, and at least I know I won't overflow lol.

Right, I'm looking to make a mold that would fit AROUND one of those USPS Flat Rate mailing boxes, which would make the inner dimensions about 13.5" x 12" x 3.5". But I only want to fill it up to about the 3" mark (leaving 0.5" leeway).

That's what makes this so much "fun." I need to make a box with imperial dimensions, to fit soap measured metrically. THEN I'll get to worry about other fun things, like how to cut it nicely, because I don't know how to make a cutter and don't want to shell out to buy one.
