My soap batter would be too thick to pipe if I left it for a half hour! This latch batch I tried I soaped at around 90-95, and it was fairly liquid when I got it into the bag. I gave it about 5 mins and it had thickened up enough that I could pipe it and by the time I was done (maybe 10 mins?) it was getting to an almost difficult stage. Granted, that was only the second time I'd attempted it (the first one really being worth mentioning as it turned into a solid lump super quick).

Sympatheticsoap, you've been busy! All of your soaps look great. I love the swirls.

Genny, your Peppermint Hot Cocoa soap looks good enough to eat!

I use 75-80% coconut in my salt soaps, 10% castor and the remainder a nice nourishing oil or butter like avocado or mango. 100% coconut AND salt will def be drying I would think. Also, I only use 50% salt ppo, and that seems to make a big difference to me, in lather and not leaving me feeling dried out. I know some soapers go all the way up to 100% salt ppo, so that is something to consider too, not sure what you use.

Here are my first two holiday soaps, and my first soap made in at least 3 weeks, maybe longer. I was so excited to get back in the groove! Unfortunately I had a batch of Gingersnap not go so well, which made me sad because it smells delicious and because I was so excited to cut some nice soaps again haha!

Question: I had some shea butter get a little warm and soft in my car during the move, and then I set it somewhere cool to stiffen back up. Could that affect it's performance in CP? I ended up with a lye heavy batch, but I am thinking I got a false trace because the FO was such a mover.

Anyway, here is Sleigh Ride, which I made in BB's new heavy duty column mold. I love the mold! Great insulator, and super easy to put together. Unmolded without any trouble after about 20 hours. This ITP turned out a bit too busy for me, think I will try pouring alternating colors next time I use this mold. I need to clean up the edges, but I have no patience for a beveler (also, I traded mine to Carrie =D ), so we shall see.

And here is Fresh Snow. We are IN LOVE with this fragrance! I have Heather to thank for that originally! Mmmmm, love it!

Well, here they are...the monstrosities...I mean soaps, that I have been up to :)

from left to right -

Energy, just a plain old bar that smells OH SO GOOD!, In front center, a whipped goat milk, oatmeal and honey with oat topping...it smells wonderful too and has no FO and stayed so pretty and white even with GM and did not need to go into the fridge, so I was highly entertained and off to the right is Vanilla oak (which apparently, if you use GM and then do NOT close the freezer when you put it in there to avoid gel, well, it WILL gel and start to crack a tad as believe it or not, the freezer gets very warm, like as warm as the house is, when the door is wide open!)

Image

(Whoa photobucket, what happened there and why are you so big today???)

Yes, my camera AND my lighting are horrible - I know, it's one more project I need to work on :) But I am fond of my little collection of soap on the shelf and it smells so yummy still, every time I open that door I just stand there and breath!

And I still really like the whipped soap - I just let it be a bar of soap out of a mold, no fancy pants piping or design, but look how lovely white it stayed when it was whipped soap...I LOVE that!

So...Just sharing, while I had a minute :) And, while I am here, I think sympatheticsoap's colors are so gorgegous! The first couple remind me of geodes, once they are cut open, I love that bright blue in your very first pic! I just love coming to this thread and staring at the soap sometimes, it all just gives me such hope I too can learn how to do some of these neat things with the colors :)

Laura I love your Christmas soaps! I know you think the swirl is busy but I like it! And the blues in the Fresh Snow are gorgeous! Very nice!
nadalotta those look awesome! The whipped soap turned out really nice. I like the way it looks. Great touch with the oatmeal. And the color on the vanilla oak is really quite pretty to me!
Great job y'all

This is my Bee A Piggy soap I made with lard, olive oil, bees wax, honey and used Honey Bee FO. I think I used cocoa butter in this one too...can't recall and I don't have the recipe in front of me.
I lined the mold with bubble wrap to get the honeycomb effect. I'd seen it on a blog and a book before. I was worried it would melt, but it didn't!

This is the loaf still in the mold. I used a narrow drawer organizer.

And this is it cut.

They are just small guest sized soaps for me to put in my nieces gift baskets at Christmas time.

I am so proud of my peppermint soap and the swirl :D
I can't actually believe that the swirls worked out really nicely. I do need to practice patience since the soap was not completely ready to unmold and I ended up tearing some of the sides
