Hello Fellow Soapers

Earlier This week I made my Coconut Soap. Which I find goes to trace quickly enough for me. But this time I added Island Coconut Scent. I don't know for certain if this is a scent that causes fast trace. But When I put it in...my soap went to trace so fast, it was all I could do to get it in the mold.

Yes, I should has put it in at Thin trace. I am learning fast. But I did get all in their molds. Not thinking, As my husband was hurrying me out the door to see my granddaughter.


So I put it in a cold oven. And left for 2 hrs. came home to a cracked mess.



It was still hot. So I put in the freezer for the rest of the evening.

It still looks like this.

I used 32 oz. Coconut oil.
2 oz. Castor oil.
4.9 oz. lye
12.9 oz water
mixed lye in at 110 degrees. Like I mix all my my soaps.
Oh, I used 3 tsp. of the island coconut scent.

I am not sure if this soap should me remixed? Or is it even safe to be used?
Was it possible the Scent that caused it to over heat?

Questions, to many to ask.
Wish I had a phone buddy.
* sigh* I so love soaping.
But not the unknown.

It's very possible the scent could have caused the overheat. Some scents, mainly the "spicy" ones (with clove, cinnamon, etc) will do that.

So once a soap has over heated, What does one do with it?

Can it be used as soap? Or does it need to be re-batched?
It is not pretty. But to use it at home would not bother my hubby. If its safe to use.

The recipe looks ok to me. Some fragrances do accelerate trace or can make the soap overheat. This FO could be one of them.

It's still soap. probably great soap. The crack is cosmetic.

I print the recipe from SoapCalc.com 2x's
One for my notes, while making soap.
and one to keep with the soap.

All I can say is:
Measure everything in grams. Teaspoons are not a good idea.
