Teach Soap

I made a 2# batch this morning and scented it with lavender EO.

1. It overheated and cracked. What the heck? This is a trend that I am *not* happy about. Is this because of the lav EO or the 20% SF or what??? I've made piles of lavender-only soap so I'm more than familiar with it but this was my first time using only coconut oil. My house isn't that hot. I mixed at around 115. The crack wasn't bad so as soon as I noticed, I put it in the freezer. Needless to say, I'm thinking ALL my soaps are going in the freezer from now on. Here's hoping the freezer fixes it. Do I need to keep it in there overnight or just until it is cool?

2. Semi-related: how do you describe your 100% coconut oil soap bars? There's plenty of info on the Web stating that too much coconut oil in soap can be drying but not much that says that at a 20% SF it is a very nice bar. I worry/wonder that people will see 100% coconut and think it isn't a good bar. Maybe I'm overthinking this. I tried to look on Etsy for all coconut bars but their search engine is useless. It only would search on store names not on kinds of products.

Not sure why it overheated. What temp were the oils and lye water?

I find that people rarely look at the ingredients when they buy my soap. They are more interested in the smell. Maybe 1 person out of 10 will look at the back label. And most of them have no idea that coconut oil can be drying.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I've made this type of soap with no problems. I would keep the soap in the fridge or freezer til it's completely cold. I explain to people about 20% superfat and how much of the oil doesn't react with lye, making the soap nice and mild.
