I made a batch of GM soap a few days ago and used powdered GM for the first time. I split the batch into two loaves (each scented/colored differently) and both of them now have brown specks throughout. It actually looks pretty nice, but am just trying to figure out exactly what they are. Before adding the GM powder, I mixed it with as little water as I could, so that it was paste-like. Then put it into my oils (before adding the lye water). I'm guessing that the brown spots are pieces of the GM powder???
Had my son zap test it for me and he said it was fine.
Thoughts??

It's the milk.

The specks are just esthetic. Try making the paste thinner. I use the Aero Latte frother to make sure everything is mixed well.

Lisa---I grew up with ONLY sisters, so the whole "boy world" has been new territory for me. But I'm a quick learner and realized early on that anything I could make into a race or a challenge would capture their interest. And I've just used that to my benefit :D.

Risks! HA! My little bro once got the brilliant idea to try throwing BRICKS over a huge GLASS greenhouse. The cops stopped "us", and because I was with him I got in trouble too! But Mom told the officer (a friend) that I wouldn't possibly do something like that. Because I know I "throw like a girl" LOL  I was the first one to leap off the pier mind you  Ahh the days of "fun risks". These days a risk is changing a spice in dinner, or trying a new scent blend. Hrm.. is tearing apart a bedroom and re-finishing it as a soap workshop a risk? Are we riding on the proverbial "wild side"? LOL

I mix my powdered GM with the oils before I added my lye solution, this is when I add clays too, anything that will benefit from a good stick blending into the oil!

I mix the GM powder with my oils, too, and give a good stick blending before adding anything else. This has always worked best for me.
