I found the soap queen videos on youtube when doing some research for all natural soap. Ultimately I'd like to make something like Kiss My Face olive oil soap, because that soap is expensive and not always easy to find. But...cold process soap is not for me. So, my question is what exactly is melt and pour soap made out of? I saw one SQ video on organic soap, but that was her only mention of it and I don't see it offered on the website. Also in one of the videos she mentioned something about melt and pour being water based, and cold process being oil based, so I can't add oils to M&P soap. But then I couldn't find that reference again. So is melt and pour soap the product that was originally created the same way as cold process soap?

Basically I want to be able to make my own soap that contains no fragrances, no dyes, no glitter, no ingredients that are bad for me or the environment. Am I asking too much?

Here's the organic MP http://www.brambleberry.com/Organic-Mel ... P4382.aspx

To me soap just isn't natural in any way at all. All soap contains lye, which isn't natural.

But some MP bases are similar to CP and the ingredients usually found in CP. They're not created exactly the same though.

You can add oils and butters to MP, but it brings the lather & bubbles down big time and the oils and butters mostly just get washed down the drain. The oils and butters need to react with lye to make them useful when you're washing. So if you're wanting soaps with butters and oils in them, choose the bases that are already contain those ingredients.

As for ingredients that are bad for the environment, if you can buy your base locally to you, that would be better for the environment, so that way there's less delivery trucks used in the process of shipping it to you.

I agree with Genny but I would add something. If you are willing to learn all the safety precautions and get the supplies, why not make a castille (100% olive oil) soap or bastille soap (at least 70% olive oil). You don't need to add fragrance or color to either unless you choose. I call my unscented, uncolored castille with goat milk soap "Birthday Suit" and love it for my face. Whatever you choose, good luck!

I think I will try to gather my courage and learn to make the castille soap. I think that's what the Kiss My Face olive oil bar is. It seems like an awful lot of work, but I'm a bit of a prepper as well, and I'd love to know how to make my own soap. I'll just have to see if I can convince hubby into it.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Both pure olive oil soap and castile should be 100% olive oil and nothing else (besides water and lye). If it's not just 100% olive oil, then it's Bastile.
