 Post subject: Castille & yellow spots

I'm new to soaping and I've decided to start with a very basic Castille recipe, no scent or color. My book says, "Don't worry if Castille soap develops yellow spots during curing - they are characteristic of the soap."

Every time the subject of 'spots' comes up it usually is not a good thing.

I've seen what seems like hundreds of pictures of Castille soap but haven't seen spots in them. Maybe I've seen the pictures that haven't cure enough to get spots?

Have any of you seasoned soapers seen the yellow spots referenced?

Those yellow spots are usually from oxidized oils. They are called DOS and it's not a good thing. Castile should never develop yellow spots.

It's an actual book. Copyright 1998. It makes no mention of a stick blender either.

This gives you an idea of how long I've been wanting to make soap. :D
