I (okay, actually hubby) ordered a Dirt FO. It should be here Tuesday, so I'm trying to think ahead and come up with some ideas for colorants/design. Obviously brown comes to mind :). My target audience is hunters---mainly men, but here in the South that includes some lady folk too. I'm not going for any elegant design, but a plain brown just seems too boring to me.
I like using cocoa powder for my brown colorant....maybe some orange also? I have Tangerine Wow from BB.

I really like the look of the cocoa powder pencil line with contrasting colors. Your adventure sounds fun.

Brown and black.

Camo was my first thought, too. You could do brown, dark green and tan and throw some poppy seeds in to look like pebbles. 8)
Or not.

Brown, light brown, dark brown. Try a BLACK pencil line, using activated charcoal instead of cocoa powder; use the cocoa powder instead to color one or more of the layers by mixing various proportions into them. But also add just a little bit of mica, maybe, to one of the soaps. Try gold or copper. Or maybe make one of the pencil lines mica. I do like the idea of the person who suggested tossing in poppy seed "pebbles," too.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I'm getting excited about trying it now. We have boys and boys bring in dirt. Never thought I'd actually be paying money to make a soap that smells like it!

Make some light tan and bring it to a very very heavy trace, then use a playdough factory with a round cross section setting to make worms. :P

Lay those around liberally on the top of the soap, and make the rest brown.

Shredded soap pieces for embeds, or a gradient with varying shades of brown. You could use some actual sand. I have a baggy my friends brought me back from their summer beach vacation I have been holding on to for a beach/tropical type soap.

One of the funniest things I've ever read from a soaping blog was from Burnt Mill, where she described one of her soaps as containing sand from a beach in California where Matthew McConaughey surfs frequently, so there was a good chance that his bare feet had touched the grains of sand in the bar of soap you'd buy. That made me want some of that soap real bad!!

Apo....now I'm excited to see YOUR dirt soap!!! You definitely have a great level of creativity----the CP world will not be the same now :D.
Laura....funny story about the CA sand soap. It's amazing what tactics will sell!
I think this time around I'll just go simple and see what happens. Should be interesting nonetheless!
