What an incredibly interesting post! I have been watching it over the past few days to see how it turns out. While I am sorry it didn't turn out the way you'd hoped I have to say we all have learned some fantastic stuff from it! Thanks for giving it a go!

Asil & Carrie - A whole, unbroken raw egg. Not sure what the rationale is, but thinking it might be the added calcium & nutrients directly to the plant root system as the egg breaks down. Where I live we are always adding lime (calcium) to our soil to prevent blossom end rot and other problems. I had no problem with that this year.

I just mentioned this to hubby and he told me that one of the farm/ag magazines he subscribes to is testing out this very idea. Like you mentioned, they suspect it will help keep blossom end rot at bay. They haven't reported their findings, but he is waiting to see their results.

Thanks for that tip Linda! Have you ever heard about putting a match or two in the hole for peppers? I can't say I have been able to prove that it works. We had a great tomato season and the squash is doing even better. I did not do the egg but DH used organic fertilizer of some type this year... so maybe something was similar. I keep giving extras to friends, neighbors, delivery people. Our salvation army has a food pantry and they also take over supplys from the gardens.
