Teach Soap

I could never bring myself to eat okra, textures sometimes make me gag.. I think the sliminess would get to me.

Yep, it's best fried crispy with a lot of cornmeal batter. I hate it boiled.

Itchy, as in my skin itched after I used it on my body. I had been washing my hands with it, and it didn't bother me then. But today in the shower, I felt a bit itchy after showering (same recipe as my other soaps which don't bother my skin). I'm not certain that it was actually the soap, or my mind playing tricks on me. It wasn't an awful itch, just a light one, which made me wonder if I was just imagining it (because okra does make me itchy when I wash it and makes hubby itchy picking it).
And the frustrating thing about it is that I really, really like the cornmeal texture in the soap, so I was hoping the whole soap would work well. It did have a decent lather and has seemed to be a harder bar, even though it is not fully cured yet (I've used other not-fully-cured soaps in the shower and haven't had a problem with them.) I even thought of a good name: Southern Skillet . Oh well! I may keep it around a bit longer and try it in a few weeks and see what I think.

I always stayed with my grandma during the summer or when my mom was working when I was a kid, and always got stuck picking in the garden. Okra was the worst thing to pick by far! Mostly because we'd go out in the morning, while it was still dewey coupled with hot/humid, which just made the itchy okra that much worse! I wore socks on my hands for picking

I was also on "shake the pear tree" duty. My grandma had this huuuuge pear tree that would be so full of fruit that the limbs would just droop onto the ground. It was my job to climb halfway up the tree and shake shake shake all the limbs to make the heavy pears fall out. I bet we got over a dozen 5 gallon buckets every year!

And pea shelling, corn shucking and shaving, pickle making, pear preserves, apple fritters, you name it I did it! Makes me feel lazy now haha.

Growing up our family always had a big garden and we preserved stuff for the winter. Also had lots of orchards and other fruit farms nearby and it was so nice to have everything fresh. I still garden and love live in a farming area once again. Right now I have a surplus of bell peppers and hot banana peppers that we've been giving to friends and co-workers. I would much rather do that then have them rot in the garden.
