wow. That's just... gross.

I had a friend comment "Why do you bother cleaning your kitchen before you make soap? Look how messy it gets! Just clean it after and save yourself the energy and time". :?

Um... well. Hrm. While I do add ground oats into my soap, I'm not sure the kids breakfast crumbs and goodness knows what else that has accumulated would be good in my soap. I explained to her how you need to make soap in a hygienic environment, and it's the same as any industrial production company that has cleanliness and hygiene standards.

I was internally thankful when she continued with a "Screw that, I'm never making soap then!"

I've had clothes from ebay arrive stinking of smoke. Makes me gag (and I'm an ex smoker of 5+ years ago). I've also had a top arrive that had clearly been worn right before it was posted! :o The perfume smell gave it away first... the dirty pits clarified it. :?

Yucky! I give my kitchen a good cleaning before I make anything; food, soap, shampoo etc. Animal hair on the other hand... that is literally impossible for me to do away with! My husbands' keeshonden sheds a million 8-12" long zig zag hairs a day, and those suckers literally weave themselves into clothing. The clothes come out of the drier with hairs in them. Sticky rollers don't work on them either. But I try to be EXTRA diligent with checking my oils and batter for hairs. I've only seen maybe 2 in my finished soap, but that was 2 too many in my opinion. Just need to be more diligent I guess!

As for smoke stench, I'd return anything that came with it. The stench is caused by particulates adhering to the surface of the item(s). There is a lot of research on the effects those particulates have from surface contact with skin. Plus its just darned gross! Mom smoked until I was 21ish, I remember as a kid sitting in a smoke filled vehicle for hours on the way to figure skating competitions. Now smoke makes me choke and gasp :?

Hehehe! I find it more comfy if I haven't made it too. It's not comfy getting into a stiff bed. I like to cacoon myself in the doona, shove all the pillows around my head, etc.

   I laughed and laughed - ya'll MUST live in the city! Out here if I don't make the bed we have a "snowball" of events:

If you leave the bed unmade, the dog WILL crawl up in it to get cozy as soon as you turn your back...

Once the dog crawls in between the sheets, a stray flea or 2 WILL make themselves at home in your nice cozy bed....

Said dog will leave a few bits and pieces of stray hay, poison oak leaves and lets not forget plain old dirt from her morning walk in the sheets, as she NEVER wipes her feet when she comes inside!

The dog will vacate the bed when she hears you shout her name in a ticked off tone...

You will forget about the "bed crusties" as we call them here, when she makes her "sad face" and give her lovin' and pettin' and tell her you didn't mean to be so cross...

That night you will crawl into bed, feeling the lovely sand between your toes and legs - like the beach right? maybe you will even hear the ocean between the pillows! - and THEN if you are lucky she will NOT have been near any poison oak...if you are unlucky...you will begin to itch...and itch....and SCRATCH in your sleep....as she has left her poisonous itchy plant oils and sometime even the odd bit or two of it there for you as well. (She can't help that the BEST place to potty outside is in the poison oak...it just is)

So bed bugs be darned, I try to keep the bed made and the dog off the furniture! Or at least I toss ti together so she can't crawl up in between the sheets when I'm not looking. :)

We NEVER ever had that issue in the city...course we had things like concrete and no noxious itchy plants there....and Ming has a TALENT for dragging stuff into the bed like dirt and even the occasional pet lizard she has found (geckos are her favorite)...

On second thought maybe my house is dirtier than I would like to believe right?

ROFL!!

No dog here. And my two cats are Devon Rex's so not only near hairless, they don't shed. The worst I get is a stray piece of kids toy. Nothing like crawling into bed, getting comfy, then feeling something at your feet that starts crying, or even freakier, calls out "I want a huuuuuug, please hug me!!" :o

I have, on a couple of occasions, nearly given myself a concussion by running into the wall as I leapt out of bed to turn the light on in fright!

LMAO! I tried the cats in the house once, briefly, when they were tiny...that lasted just until they were big enough to get evicted to the barn! Something about a critter that claws my arm softly as I sleep...people call it "knitting"...suuuurrre..."knitting"..HA! You mean plotting my demise! I just never trusted anything that would practice sinking it's claws in me for some reason....

And the dog, well, she might as well be bald....ignore the goat kid cuteness on the left and focus on the black blob on the right - that is Ming....she doesn't keep much hair as a rule, but those WRINKLES trap EVERY bit of dirt and sand out there and transport them in! You should see under her spot on the couch - I have to sweep it twice a day for all the sand that falls off her wrinkles!

Image

And why yes, that would be a baby goat on my living room floor....so I guess I am almost as bad as the "Smoking Soaper" from today...but at least my dirt is FARM dirt and CUTE dirt :)

Actually, except for the fact it's another country, people here DO ship goats by plane a lot! Costs an arm and a leg...but it can be done :)

Course we have 10 acres...ya'll just pack up and move on over and we can put you in your own corner of the property...you can help with kidding season and soap making and get ALL the baby goat time you need!

Here's another pic for you...to contemplate how badly you need to live here:

EVERYONE needs a goat like her!

OMG how sweet! Is the cat napping with her holding it? Ya'll come on then, we have room :)

The kitties AND the kiddos are always welcome - gonna have to make a TON more soap though, kids get extra dirty living out here! You should see the pic of my friends daughter on facebook...sleep in the dirt, straight up DIRT! She took off her rubber boots first tho, got good and comfy before she laid down for a nap!
