What purpose do they serve in bath salts, bath bombs and such? are they merely to anchor your fragrances or is there some other benefit to adding them? Water softening? skin conditioning? Just want to understand some of the recipes I have been reading about.

They help for the fragrance to stay. They are nice for the skin, but diluted in so much water, I don't think you would get much from them
