Hi everyone.
Well, my first batch of CP soap has cured for 6 weeks. :) (Boy that's a long wait!) Anyway, is it normal for the soap to feel a little oily? I had superfatted at 5%.

If it's been hot or humid it can feel that way.

What do you mean by oily? Is it just the outside you are talking about? Are the bar's hard? What's the recipe you used?

I've never had any of my soaps feel oily before.

I can only assume that the comments about humidity are correct - we don't have humidity here so I don't have that issue.

Soapbuddy should be able to tell you for certain if they are still usable or not. I can't see why they wouldn't be though. Sounds like condensation build up more than anything.

I would take out the canola oil out of your recipe. It's a soft oil and is more prone to oxidation or DOS.
You have to superfat! Always! If you don't superfat, your soap will be lye heavy and can burn your skin.
Get your recipe down, make lots more soap and know how your soap will behave 6 months down the road or one year down the road before you even consider selling. Soapmaking is not make it today, sell it tomorrow. Make sure you have all your paperwork done, including liabilty insurance and correct labeling.

Look at the FDA web site on what you can and cannot say about your soap. Medical claims about your soap are a big no no! I know there are craft sites out there that people make medical claims about their soap. If they get caught, the fines are steep. I wouldn't go there re: any medical claims.
