Teach Soap

Hi,
My name is Theresa, And I am just learning to make Soap. Decided to do this Because my husband has Celiac. Which if you did not know, means a Gluten intolerance. Did you know That they put it in most everything!!

Its not just in foods. Its sometimes in Soaps, Lotions etc. Trying to find a soap or lotion that he can use, or my wallet can take is difficult. And that does not mean that the product works. So I an entering a new world.

I made my first batch two weeks ago. I used CP.
My oils were
Coconut oil ( 76 degrees) 10 Oz.
Olive oil 30 Oz.
Shea Butter (refined) 10 Oz.
Water 16.5 Oz.
Lye 6.8 Oz.

And 1 Oz. of Lavender Oil.

It turned out very pretty. And is setting up well. Just a few air bubbles here and there. Good clean color so far.

Can not wait to try it.

Now I am just trying to decide what to make for him next. Any suggestions??

It is amazing how many thing have gluten in them. And everything you can make at home will certainly help!
Your recipe sounds really nice. You may want to add 5% castor oil and reduce your olive by 5%. The castor will help add some bubbles to your bar, since olive and shea are very low lather.

Welcome! Your recipe is about 5% superfat. I would go with 6.6 ozs. of lye for next time for about a 7% superfat. I agree. I would discount your olive and add castor for more bubbles.

Just in case you don't know, stay clear of using Vitamin E in your soap or putting it in your oils. Some vitamin e is derived from wheat.

To help extend the shelf life of your soapmaking oils, add a very small amount of ROE (rosemary oleoresin extract) to your oils as soon as you get them.
