Hi everyone,
I made a pumpkin soap last night. I used 1oz puree ppo,as had read that's the amount should be used.
Firstly, in some videos and tutorials, it seemed to me this proportion was bigger,so I'm wondering if my amount was correct.
Secondly, my pumkin had a beautiful vivid orange colour that became yellow in soap (for its small amount,I understand that),but will it turn brown during the curing period?
I poured out two smaller portions, one for white (with no puree and no f.o.- was't willing to tempt TD to giving me curdling problem),another one for brown.
And,just to mention I used pumpkin that my father-in-law had grown and it's delicious for eating, too.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I use 3 oz per 2 lb batch and 6 oz for a 4 lb batch. I reduct the water to compinsate. I also use some pumpkin pie spice in mine . It stays an orange/brown color

Your soap sounds nice! :)

I've added more pumpkin, but I think 1oz ppo is a safe amount. Your soap will probably become more orange-brown, especially if the f.o. you added had vanillin in it.

I'll post picture link when cut it.
I don't know what pumpkin pie spice is,I'm not sure if that kind of spice mixture can be found here.
The fragrance is camomile-aloe vera (and it's very nice) what didn't stop me from trying pumpkin.

Clove, nutmeg, cardamon and cinnamon oils used in small amounts can be used to scent the pumpkin soap.

I have only cinnamon e.o. of those you listed, but I didn't use it because it might cause allergy or some other reaction. I put only 2% of f.o.,so we'll see how it will come out.

Here it is: my first pumpkin soap

http://www.flickr.com/photos/majasphoto ... hotostream

I wish the white part was bigger, but I'll know for the next time. I'll put some more of puree and maybe a hint of orange to make it more pumpkin-like.
Not bad at all, considering that f.o-s started to seize up.
I hope it will turn nice once when curing period gets over. It has almond oil and cocoa butter (the brown colour is cocoa powder), SF 8%, hopefully it will be suitable for my baby.

I don't know how old you baby is, I would not have used almond oil. My doctor told me that nut oils should not be used on a baby under 6 months to one year of age. They can become sensitized to it and could end up with a nut allergy later on in life.

I agree with Irena. For baby's gental oils, like olive, no coloring and no fragrance. Baby actually enjoys the water more than the scents.

She's 19 months,I still think of her as a 'baby'! I knew kids mustn't eat any nuts until turn three, but I didn't think of oils. Do you think she's old enough for almond oil? Thanks for the info.

At 19 months you should be fine, just use it once and watch her skin to make sure she does not react. My grand-dtr is allergic to tree and ground nuts so I will always need to be careful on what oils or additives I use.

I just tried the pumpkin hot process recipe from the Loving' Soap blog, and it's great! She adds the lye to 10oz pumpkin and 2ounces water. And it works!
