I took my son with me to a local supplier because I needed a particular fragrance rather quickly. My son has come with me before, and they have racks and racks of fragrance oils that we like to smell. He was to my left, and I was just placing a bottle back on the shelf when he asked me for something to drink. I looked at him, and yelled "DID YOU DRINK THAT????" He said, "IT WAS AN ACCIDENT!" I scooped him up, rushed him to the bathroom and shoved my finger down his throat. He was screaming and crying and I was screaming trying to get him to throw up. I ran back to the front, and they had the owner on the phone and we were trying to figure out which one he drank. We took turns smelling his lips and deduced it was Apple Berry. Fortunately, if he was going to pick one to drink, that was one of the safest ones. They sent someone out to buy some milk, and we made him drink a ton of water and milk. I just about died!

He told me, once I'd calmed down, that he tipped the bottle to his nose to smell it, and it poured out. He didn't actually turn it up and drink it. That made sense to me because I have TONS of fragrance oils all over the place, and he knows they aren't for drinking. But, just to be on the safe side, I kept shoving liquids down his throat. He's fine. No problems whatsoever.

Wow, that's scary! I'm glad he's ok! I'm guessing it took you a bit longer to recover than him.

Ooh, I know how you feel. Last year when my son was 2 he drank 1/2 an oz of a cotton candy fo. Before I did anything I called poison control. First they asked if it was an EO, which it wasn't. If it was an EO, they said that he should be brought to the ER immediately. They instructed me to not do anything at all. They told me that inducing vomiting would most likely cause more harm to his throat. They said not to give water since water and oil don't mix. Then said that if he started to act strange to bring him to the doctor.
I still have no idea how he got the fo. My storage cabinet was still locked when I checked afterwards. He's like Houdini or something.

Ack!!! Glad both of your kiddos are fine! I'd have panicked if this happened to any of my nieces or my nephew!

So glad he's ok! He'll probably never want to set foot in that store again, though!

Linda, that's EXACTLY what he said! "Mommy, I'm NEVER going back in that place again!" I said, "Don't worry. I'm not going to bring you!"

Wow that was a close call! For sure any time some one ingests something unusual it is best to call poison controll, they are very helpful .
I wonder if the shop does not also have MSDS sheets on all of their EO\FO?

We had to call poison control when the dogs ate soap, it SHOULD have been fully saponified, but we were unsure. They had us give the dogs peroxide to induce vomiting. LOVE that there is a place to call like this!

How is he doing now?

Oh God How scary!! My daughter Hannah was the one always doing something like this. Of all my kids she is the one that got fed ipikac (sp?) for swallowing china berrys of of a chinese tallow tree.

Make sure you have some activated charcoal tablets handy at all times. It should absorb any toxins in the tummy and help pass them on through.
