Hi everyone,

So I still need to do an intro about myself however I do have a quick newbie question first.

My daughter (age 11) and I have been "playing" around with melt & pour this last week and trying new things and our last batch turned out pretty bad. We wanted to make a Chocolate Covered Strawberry smell with pink and brown coloring. Well turns out I didn't have brown so we tried this gold coloring I had...... Needless to say our melt n pour looks BAD!

My newbie question is that the frugal person in me doesn't want to waste this, so what would you do with it? I would say we have like maybe a pound of it in different square sizes.

Thank you in advance,

~Nikki

I would just use it for personal use.

I made a mistake like that too... I cut it up with a straight edge cutter into little peieces no more then an 1/16th or so and used it like ground cover or dirt in another M&P layered soap.. turned out good.. used it in a square or loaf pan. I love making chunk soap. I've found the smaller the peices of junk (aka mistake) soap the better it looks in a chunk soap layering type. but please DO NOT use a sharp knive to chop up into little peices. as I wouldnt want you to cut yourselves. its a bit time consuming but worth it in the end. any questions ask here or PM me. always happy to help out. so are others on here.

So I admit I am not a fan of the smell of strawberries. Maybe it is because I am allergic to artificial strawberries. So using my mistakes for myself wasn't my idea of fun. So what I did is remelted the soap and used the ice cube mold I got from IKEA and made these flower type shapes. The flash on my camera makes it look like it is hot pink, however it is more like a mauve color. Trying to figure out to reduce the size of my photo so I can attach it and show you all. In the mean time this is my page on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid= ... =1&theater

Melissa, again thank you so much for your words of encouragement!

First off I don't use any bases from EBC. I was thinking of changing our bottles from regular bottle to maybe a tube so I asked Adrian from EBC if I could use their photo, and I was given permission. That way I could gauge the response. Just like I did earlier when I wasn't sure about going from clear with colored product, or pink bottles with no color. EBC has helped me in a pinch when I needed bottles, soaps and fragrances and I love their customer service.

As for making soaps, like I said earlier I am a newbie. I am learning as much as I can so I can expand on stuff I already have and sell. I am in 2 boutiques here in Utah and I am looking at branching out. I came to this forum because Becky from BB suggested it. I have a ton of questions, with really no one to turn to. My problem is that I am a perfectionist so things have to be just right in my head. And lately with soap I am finding out that I can't be that way. That mistakes do happen and when they do sometimes it turns out better than you expected.

To be honest with you soapbuddy your accusation was a nice lil slap in the face, blunt and rude. I would never dream of calling someone out like that. However that is just me and my personality because I am not one for confrontation or conflict. However in the future I would rather have an email on the side like you did about my pink font. As you can see by this new post I am honoring your request to remove the font color.

I had no way of knowing if you just copied & pasted from their web site or asked for permission. I see that you got permission so all is good. I wouldn't want you to get into trouble with a vendor. I hope you understand where I'm coming from as there has been a problen here in the past. If I offended you I'm sorry, It wasn't meant that way.

I have dealt with EBC for many years as well. Like I said I didn't want you to get into trouble in case it was just copied and pasted from their web site without their permission. I know the owners personally, so I would say I have a vested interest. I don't want either party to get hurt. They are a wonderful company with some great products. My post was not meant as a slap on anyone's face. I do appreacite you for chanching that pink color that was very difficult for us old timers to black.

I hope that you and I will have a proffessional relatioship in the future. I'd rather tell you straight, insted of talking about you behind your back. I'm sure that you can undrestand that. So let's get to soaping and have some fun!

I said I was looking to branch out, not take a huge leap. :) The only "soaps" I have sold is my Foaming Hand Soap, My Shower Gels and my Goldfish Soaps in a bag.

The CP is what my best friend is wanting to sell. She is in Southern Utah and doesn't have time to focus on the little things like selling and marketing, however she wanted to sell these. I told her to test it out on family and friends and if they got good reviews and feedback I would sell them. (that was back in March this year) I admit I am a lye wuss so I am not ready for CP. I would rather tackle that when I can learn face to face what I an doing do I can ask questions as I go.

Magical Star is my "baby", however my best friend offered to do CP and another friend offered to teach me how to make candles. For a long time I focused on the primary bath and body stuff and have been asked to make soaps. I thought Melt and Pour would be the easiest place to start.

I made this thread to ask what do do with the soap since I made a mistake. After some thought and advice I remelted it and then put it into a flower mold. I ask my coworkers and friends as well for feedback, and I didn't want to give them crappy colored soap that I didn't even find appealing

As for selling it, maybe your right. However my thought was "our mistake is your gain". My customers knew if there ever is a problem with their products they can come back to me and I would do what I can to make them happy. For example I had a someone leave their lotion bar in the car and it melted. Did I have to replace it? No it is their own fault, however I did because I believe in good customer service.

I'm all for sharing, and I do, with quite a lot of people on this board and others. However there are a lot more 'over-night soapers' who don't take the time to learn properly before selling, don't take into consideration that people can get harmed from incorrect soap making, use of essential or fragrance oils, etc. Such things happen when you're selling the first soap you've made, especially when you've already commented that it didn't turn out as expected.

I understand this forum is a very 'happy hug' atmosphere, and generally I am happy for that, however surely we don't want to promote the idea that people can start selling as soon as they start making and everything else doesn't matter? Insurance may not be a requirement to sell soap (although neither is contents insurance to own furniture but you'd be silly not to have it), but there is paperwork involved, etc.

I'd much rather see people being taught to right way to do things, than just giving them a hug, everyone commenting "that looks great" and falsely teaching them they can just do it without a care. Especially given they were already advised to keep it for personal use only.

My post was not aggressive, it was not abusive. I may not have ended with a hug and a kiss, but given the concern for selling a non-tested, remelted/mixed failed soap, I wouldn't expect anyone to be singing their praises. Given how sensitive the author seems to be anyway, I'm not surprised they've taken offence to my post as well.
