Teach Soap

I posted this in the lotions and I think I should of posted it here???

When I made my sample soaps I lined a small cookie sheet with wax paper (Bought at Wal-Mart)and then poured my soap on to my wax paper, once dry enough to remove I noticed my wax paper melted on my cookie sheet .

I think I'm pouring my soap at to hot of at temp. How long do you let your soap sit after melting it before pouring it so it doesn't melt your wax paper?

Also I'm wanting to line my molds (Loaf Pans...Little ones) with plastic wrap (Bought at Wal-Mart cheap brand) now that I went through the wax paper melting on me I fear my plastic wrap will do the same. Any hints on using plastic wrap to line your molds with? Should I be using a certian name brand? Or how long should I wait to pour it out? I thought for samples it would be easier to use the little loaf pans and cut slices of samples out that way...Thanks for any wisdom on this and Hugs, Lee

When you first pour the soap it's still very oily; even if it's at a thick trace. Sometimes the oil saturation gives the appearance that it melted the wax paper. It could also be the soap heated up enough to melt the wax. Unless you're soaping at 120 or over I wouldn't worry about it too much. I use the cheap wal-mart brand of plastic wrap to line my mold and never had a problem. I even put the mold into a warm (170) oven to force a gel and it still hasn't melted. I would bet that the wax paper is getting oil saturation and not melting but I could be wrong.

You've posted quite a lot here in a very short time. I'm glad you're able to use this forum as a resource. When I started soaping about 5 years ago I didn't know about the forum and learned the hard way. There is a lot of experience here.....and I, for one, am thankful. Glad to have you here.

I wouldn't use wax paper and I wouldn't use a metal pan unless it was totally covered with something that you're sure won't leak. ( not wax paper.)
If you can't find freezer paper, use plastic wrap and then parchment over that. Or even a thick plastic trash bag ( if not going in the oven.)
Yes, it will melt the wax off of wax paper and you'll be left with limp ( oil saturated) paper stuck to your soap. Parchment and freezer paper won't do that.
You can also use tupperware containers ( most things plastic) if you have a flat, shallow one that things could pop out of , you don't even need to line it.

Can I ask how you do it? My soaps stuck so bad in the little loaf pans (New ones) and I had to freeze them to get them out. White kitchen trash bags okay or ??? Thanks & Hugs, Lee
