Teach Soap

The flower shop that I get rose petals from ask me if I would like to display just a few of my sugar scrubs. My question is I think in a setting like that I would need a preservative in the scrub.

What should I use that would be considered safe.

I would go with Phenonip. It's oil soluble, not unlike other preservatives, which are only water soluble.You should use a preservative in ALL sugar or salt scrubs, since there is a strong chance that the scrubs will get wet or scooped out with damp fingers.

How much would I use?

I use Phenonip in my Sugar Scrubs since I like to use them in the shower. I use .5% to 1% total weight but generally .5% works well.

Is phenonip considered paraban free? Seems like that is what everyone is concerned about..

If it is not paraban free then wouldn't you be using such a small amount that it would not hurt.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

thank you for the reply.. I am going to use it. I do not want anyone or my family to get any kind of bacteria.

If I was going to make up a scrub using 20 oz sugar and 8 oz oils would 0.5 % be enough

I guess I am alittle bit confused. When I make sugar scrub I have used sugar, oils and E.O. or F.O. and when the scrub sits unused the oil rises to the top alittle. But I always tell whoever uses it that might want to stir first.. Would the preser. make it greasier?

I have not made scrubs alot so I still need all the help I can get.. Everyone on this forum is very helpful and I have learned so much..

I know this is a stupid question -sorry, but for 16 oz of product (sugar scrub) how much in grams would .5 percent be? Thats as small as my scale goes.Figured that would be more acurate. Im having a hard time wrapping my head around the numbers.
would that be like 2.3 grams???
