How does one list colourants on a label? Like this (for carbon black from TKB): D&C black #2 and polyester 3 (black colourant). Or some variant of that? Or is listing simply "colourant" proper? I have seen both and have seen FDA quotes for both. My poor brain. It is full of colourants and has no idea how to label with them!

I list the exact ingredients for the colorant because of allergies and stuff.

That's what I was thinking! My ingredient labels are almost as big as my soap bars LOL, not sure what size font to use for them, maybe 7 or 8?

If you use FD&C (or just D&C) colorants, you can just put CI numbers, like 'D&C colorants CI 15510'- that's for orange. And that's how you will find colorants listed in any cosmetic product. If someone knows he's developing an allergy to some colour ,he will also know what ingredients he should stay away.

Listing only FD&C numbers will save your space.
That's how I would do.

Thanks!!

What about fragrances? Some I've seen list an INCI name, others just say INCI: fragrance. Will I need a database for these like I do my colourants?

Where do you put distilled water on your ingredients list?

It would go in order of most to least amounts for the ingredients. My water usually is listed 2nd or 3rd depending on how much I use for a recipe. For lotions, it's listed first.

I put it in the ingred list order by the amount, so if I use 10 oz it will usually be the 3rd or 4th ingred. I agree about how much has to fit on a small lable. Even using the smallest font I can makes it a challange. There are times when I just want to list it as 'SOAP' and be done - but I have not.

I see Linda bet me to this one! I am proud to say we think alike Linda! :D

Ehhh for my gift bars it is near the end, but they are all going to soapers so it should be alright. Mostly I just wanted to show off my packaging and get feedback!!! Had SO much fun packing the boxes to go around the world!

You wanna know what makes the frosting on Cinnamelts at McDonald's white? Titanium dioxide. Kind of off topic but it's remarkable how inoccuous most of the colorants used for soap are.
