Teach Soap

I've been asked to give a soaping demo/presentation at an upcoming beekeepers symposium. I've never done this before and am a bit out of my comfort zone (that's an understatement!)
It's this Saturday and I'm working on a handout to give to the attendees that includes the recipe I'll be demonstrating, general CP info, some links, and safety tips. I'm trying to make this "do-able" for a first-timer without any past experience, so will be doing 100% coconut oil soap using the jar of LouAnna coconut oil you can buy at our local Wal-Mart along with honey (to make it appropriate for the beekeepers theme!). Accessing distilled water and lye isn't too complicated, but what I'd like to know is what kind of a container should I suggest that they mix their lye water in? and also to mix the soap in? I could suggest picking up something at the thrift store, but is there some kind of disposable containers that they could use just to try their hand at soaping without investing in the equipment for the long-term?
I'll be bringing my own equipment, but I want them to be able to walk away from the presentation thinking....."Hey----I could do that!"

Good luck - relax and have fun. Easier said than done.

I really like the Soaping101 series on YouTube. She does a great video on the gel or not to gel issue, which was really helpful for me. Very straightforward style.

They can use the generic Tupperware containers to mix their lye in and another one to pour their soap into. My liability insurance won't cover me for events like this, so I don't do it.

Good luck and have fun Carrie. I did it a while back for a homeschool event(Pioneer Day). It was fun and the kids loved it. Especially the 8-12 yo girls.

Thanks, ladies! I'm going by myself for the day. My demo runs during the first session and I'm assisting a friend doing a HP demo during second session. So if nothing else, once those are over I'll at least have a "day off" sans kiddos and get to learn a bit about bee keeping!

Oh....books. What recommendations do you have? I listed Anne L. Watson's (Smart Soapmaking) but don't have experience with any others.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

I use plastic yogurt containers to mix lye all the time. They work fine. A lined shoebox will work as a mold.
