Teach Soap

Wonder if anyone could tell me what the difference between Ph testing and zap testing. I haven't been able to determine if my zap tests are good or bad, if I Ph tested my soaps would a high level mean lye heavy?

The pH of handmade soap is usually about 9. If you tongue tested for zap and didn't get anything but a soapy taste, your soap is fine. If it was lye heavy you would have known immediately! If you want to know what zap feels like, touch a teeny tiny bit of the soap batter to the tip of your tongue.
(but make sure you have some juice handy to rinse your mouth)

I wondered what it was like, so I touched my tongue to a batch of non-gelled soap that I knew would zap me. ZAP! Made me giggle hehe

If I want to know I can just put a little fresh soap batter on the tongue? From what I have read, I will know when it happens, so maybe I should just leave it alone and be thankful I haven't yet experienced it I am more concerned about selling(eventually) bad soap to innocent people!

I have a zap question. I'm new to soapmaking and I just finished a lovely batch of pure white soap (it's gorgeous). I left it for 24 hrs, nice even gel, unmoulded and cut it up no problem. Then I wanted to try this zap-test thing, so I took a small curl of soap from one of the ragged edges, put it on the tip of my tongue and waited. Nothing happened for about ten seconds, but after that I noticed a distinct tingling sensation emerging, not unlike the battery feeling people always compare the 'zap' to.

So my question is: does the zap have to be immediate for it to count? And is some latent tingling after some time OK?
