Im going to be investing in molds in the coming weeks...

Mostly for basics...nothing decorative. I'm already pretty sure I want BB's silicone tray that makes the 4oz squares.

What's the most economical, yet durable type of molds for bars? I make both loaf bars and individually molded bars. I don't know whether to go with silicone or plastic for the long run. I like to keep to 4-5oz

For detailed molds I prefer silicone molds. For more standard ones I use plastic.

I have a stash of molds, and honestly, I keep returning to my 12" drawer organizers. I love the clear ones, so that you can see what you are doing as you swirl or layer the soaps.

I also use a lot of drawer organizers. They're cheap, the soap pops out easily, and they are extremely versatile! I have one that I used as a 1 lb. loaf, another for a 2 lbs. slab, another for a 1 lbs. slab. I bought mine at Walmart for $2-$4 bucks.

I also really like Mold Market for more detailed designs. Brambleberry also has some great ones! Plus, I keep my eye out every time I go into a kitchen store because you never know where you'll find cheap novelty shaped ice cube trays!

I find that the 7" silicone square pan comes in handy for bendable (if thats a word) type soap like jellyrolls and such. . BB got one with reinforced sides which dont warp. other one brought without the side reinforced do. also if your insterested another company ( send link via PM) has trappered edge 3 oz bars. but are very thin plastic. you can see the one I'm talking about in some of my pictures of soaps.... also heavy duty molds are also good. hope that helps.

I might sound really dumb here (willing to take the plunge though), but what does a drawer organizer look like? I have never had to use one!

I would suggest going to your local dollar store (I went to Dollar Tree) and found a pack of 3-2lb drawer organizers for $1 and a 4lb drawer organizer for $1. I can send a link if you want to see a picture of them. Make sure you browse your store thoroughly as they were a bit difficult to find in my store. I ended up buying 2 of the 3 packs and 2 of the larger, single organizers. I soaped with the 2lb one last night and the soap came out very easily!!

I hit my local dollar store last week and they didn't have any drawer organizers. Sad! Any other inexpensive places? Oh, wait they did have those shallow, silicone ice cube trays in skulls or in pumpkins. :)

I've been searching for drawer organizers for weeks. they just cannot be found where I live. When I do find them they are the wrong kind...mesh..or with a textured bottom on the inside. It's do funny...I cannot shop..in any store...anymore without looking at stuff thinking "hmmmm I could make a mold out of that" lol
