Last week I bought a small batch of M&P at the local craft store and then wanted more:) I placed a couple orders online for better products and more variety , waiting for them now. My biggest "what to do is molds". I ordered a couple decorative rectangle molds, but think I want to use them just for specific scents of soap, so my scents don't cross to each other.(Is that a problem generally?) Do you mostly use regular size bar molds, loafs, or ? FYI I did also go to a couple stores today looking at "regular" stuff to use for molds, but didn't find anything I thought would work. Thanks for any and all advice, tips and tricks.

Welcome!
I reuse the same molds with different scents all the time with no problems. If you want to play now without ordering online, I would try your local big box store or a kitchen store. They have silicone molds that you can use for soap.

I prefer to make my soap in loaves, I usually just use a 12" rubbermaid drawer organizer....they work great for small batches of MP, CP and HP soaps. I don't find that scents cross-contaminate either in any of my molds.

You can use most any container as a soap mold as long as: 1. it won't melt from the heat of MP soap being poured into it, 2. you can release your soap from it and 3. it's clean(!). The possibilities are endless and limited only by your creativity and the above. I like silicone and other easy release type soap molds, but I've used a McDonald's coffee cup, fruit cup and pudding cup containers, milk carton, juice can, and even a Pringles container (individual serving) for a soap mold - recycling is cool! I also have silicone ice cube trays in different shapes for embeds - these are easy to find at The Dollar or Goodwill store. If I remember correctly, the Soap Queen even used a PVC pipe for her MP citrus slice soaps a few years back and some CP soapers use PVC pipes too. Sometimes when I go to the store, I can't help but wonder if a container would make a good mold or not.

I've rarely had any scent transfer to a mold unless the FO/EO "ate" at the mold or when the soap was poured in too hot and usually with the cheap soap molds (thin plastic) like you can find in most craft stores or once with a cheap silicone mold I bought online manufactured in Korea. As long as you wash your molds well in warm water after use, scent transfer shouldn't be a problem.

Welcome to soaping - it can be addicting! :)

I jumped in 6 months or so ago and ended up buying probably $150 in molds from BB right off the bat. Now M&P has taken over half my living room.

My suggestion is to get the molds with a lot of detail, because I think it must be easy to quickly get bored with plain M&P soaps. At least it would be for me. I jumped right into soap molds that require heavy detail work. Lots of fun. And some grimacing.

Also, you can look for the soap mold in kids stores, for example molds for playing in the sand. Once I have bought this cute turtle plastic mold. It was a little hard to get the soap out of it, but I pop it in the freezer for 20 minutes and this do the job.

Maybe you'll help me too. I am looking for the pyramid mold. The best of the best would be triangle pyramid. Any ideas where to get one?
